Sacred Heart Parish, inspired by Christ's love, is committed to reaching out and responding to the needs of the poor, elderly, sick, and homeless.

Social Concerns provides the moral and physical support when needed and whenever possible.

 

 

 

Some of our programs to accomplish these goals are:

  • Feeding the hungry 
    • Parishioner donations of food and other items are distributed to those within our local community in need, in the form of holiday food baskets. The collections of goods are distributed at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
      • In 2018, The Social Concerns ministry distributed baskets to 231 homes helping to feed over 764 people within our community.
    • Members work as food bank volunteers, delivery drivers and food collection and distribution to Catholic aid agencies within our Archdiocese as well as Interfaith and Community Food Programs including:
      • St. Rocco's Outreach Project Solution (Newark)
      • Missionary Sisters of Mother Teresa (Newark)
      • Church on the Green Food bank (Bloomfield)
      • First Baptist Church Food pantry (Bloomfield)
      • Park United Methodist Church Community Lunch Program and Ladles of Love (Bloomfield)
      • Montclair Interfaith Hospitality Network (Montclair)

  • Sharing God's Gifts
    • Donated gifts left under our "Giving Tree" at Christmastime are distributed to the poor and needy of our community.
    • Catholic Charities donation bin is located next to Nardiello Hall and helped provide over $1,500 for the programs and people aided by Catholic Charities of Northern New Jersey.
    • Members work as volunteers or full time staff at local charitable organizations
      • Bridges Outreach, Inc. (Newark)
      • Neighbor to Neighbor Network (Bloomfield)
      • St. Marys (Nutley) Asylum Accompaniment Program
    • Sacred Heart has embarked on a unique partnership with Catholic Charities in providing food, housing, clothing and home items and social outreach to families resettled here through the Special Immigration Visa Program (Refugees)
      • To date, Sacred Heart has become the first safe place for five newly arrived legal immigrant families to the United States.
      • We have provided for the housing and corporeal needs of 14 former refugees in the past year.
  • Prayer and Praise
    • Annual Anointing of the Sick Mass on the first Saturday of May.
    • Nursing Home, shut-in and hospital visits to elderly and ill of our parish
    • Volunteer prayer warriors outside local private abortion clinic (Montclair)
