What Is NeXt Level?
In the spring of 2019, Sacred Heart was nominated by the Archdiocese of Newark Social Concerns Office, Director Rev. Timothy Graff to participate in a New Service based Youth Group through the Center for FaithJustice in Trenton, NJ.
The Altar Server, Religious Ed and Music ministries invited all students grades 7-11 to apply, and then reached out to these natural leaders in our parish to help get this program started. 7 Students and 4 youth mentors have come forward to begin this journey. Our Youth Delegates are: Elizabeth O'Neill, Ella Jacoby, Sofia Rojas, Francis Osundu, Sael Matute, Isaac Jacoby, Daniel Pena and Peter Osundu. Youth Mentors are Noel D'Souza, Connelson Nwangwu, LJ Pilar and Brandon O'Campo.
Our Parish Delegates, mentors, family members and staff will be attending an outdoor Ignition Retreat this Saturday, April 24 in Warren, NJ where they will meet their counterparts from 13 parishes from NJ and NYC to begin their training for this new ministry. In the coming weeks, the Youth delegates will be addressing the parish at 5:30 and 10:30 masses to ask for community input as they plan a service project that will meet the needs of the Greater Bloomfield community.
We ask that you keep the Youth and their mentors in your prayers as they begin this project, and that it becomes a flourishing ministry within our Sacred Heart Community.
As of our launch in November 2020, Youth and Mentors from Sacred Heart Parish have been invited to participate. Taking into consideration the COVID reality in which we live, NeXt Level will be working with your parish staff to come up with innovative and safe opportunities for you to have virtual and/or physically distanced gatherings, interactive retreats, and an immersion service-learning experience. The various elements in our program will allow you to grow as a leader, explore your faith, and pursue service and social justice. In your community, you will implement a project designed by your cohort of youth delegates that will engage members of your parish across generations. You will be supported through all of this by adult mentors of our parish, parish staff, and NeXt Level staff.
