Sacred Heart Church - The Heart and Hands of the Community

Music at Sacred Heart Presents

Upcoming Events

The Choirs of Sacred Heart went on hiatus from March 2020 through May 2021, and the hymnals left the pews and music was made sparser, with more deliberate choices made to keep the health and safety of all in check.

Praise God, we have had some relaxing of restrictions informed by more data about the hows and whys of virus spread. In June, we were able to bring back the adult choir and the hymnals to the pews. Though the overall character of some of the music at masses has not changed, I would like to draw your attention to our hymnals.

They were purchased in 2017 specifically with an eye to the music and hymns they contain. As we strive to celebrate the amazing diversity of our congregation, and look for authentic ways to come into communion with the people around us, we will all be asked to begin singing in more languages. Singing in worship has always been a humbling act, and God appreciates all of our efforts if we approach Him with love and reverence.

Some hymns may be in English, Latin, Spanish, something else, or multiple languages. Choral anthems offered this year will explore deeper the different styles of music that are authentic to the many peoples that make up the ‘greater people’ of Sacred Heart. There are holy days during the year when only one Eucharistic liturgy is permitted, and these will naturally include multi-lingual hymns and anthems and Latin for the parts everyone must sing. The intent is that this will draw more of our congregation into feeling completely welcomed and honored at our common Eucharistic Table. We are the Universal church!

Finally, Choir boot camp begins Monday, August 16 through Thursday August 19. No experience necessary. Children 5-15 are from 9:30-11am, Adults from 7:30-9:30pm (NO ADULTS WEDNESDAY).   All are welcome, and no commitment is necessary for the coming season.

Thank you to all who made our Third Annual Mardi Gras celebration a success!

Mark your calendars for next year's festivities on Friday, February 26, 2021.
